Ignition Poker's Super Millions Poker Open Runs July 15 - Aug. 13

PaiWangLuo Network Logo

Liven up the summer doldrums with the Super Millions Poker Open (SMPO) 2017 at Ignition Poker. This online poker tourney series starts on July 15 and ends Aug. 13. There are 105 events on the schedule, and they guarantee a total of $2.5 million in prize money. Buyins range from $5.00 + $0.50 to $425 + $25. Ignition Poker serves Americans only, but players in Canada, Mexico, and several other countries can access the SMPO tournaments through its sister site on the PaiWangLuo Network, Bodog. The $2.5 million in guarantees and 105 events represent an improvement over the first Super Millions, held last year, which only promised to pay out $2.3 million across 81 tournaments.

Super Millions Poker Open Main Features

There are 100 numbered events in this year's SMPO, but there are also five "SMPO Special" tournaments that are listed in the schedule without a number, so the total number of MTTs in the series equals 105. Three tourneys will run per day during the course of the series except on Sundays when this rises to six. Most of the games will begin in the evening, Eastern Time, but on the weekends, some of them will start in the afternoon instead.

Heads-up contests, super stack MTTs, shootouts, and even a couple of rebuy tournaments mean that the SMPO caters to many kinds of players. No Limit Hold'em occupies the leading role, as you would expect, but there are also several other types of poker. The number of tourneys in each game breaks down as follows:

  • NLHE: 85
  • PLO: 13
  • PLO8: 4
  • LHE: 1
  • Limit O8: 1
  • Limit Omaha Hi: 1

Tournaments of Interest

You probably won't be able to take a seat in every single contest included in the SMPO, so we've decided to present you with a list of some of the more notable entries on the schedule. We considered guaranteed prize pools, buyins, and uniqueness when coming up with our picks.

Event #1: Saturday, July 15 at 2:03 p.m.

SMPO Warm-Up Event, $20 + $2, $10K Gtd. (10K Chips): Ignition gives you a gentle welcome to the tournament action with a small-buyin event that features a 500bb starting stack. Because it kicks off early Saturday afternoon, you can play for hours without having to stay up late.

Event #22: Friday, July 21 at 9:03 p.m.

SMPO PLO Event, $100 + $9 $10K Gtd. (Escalating Levels SS): Raise pot with your big wraps and pray that your top sets hold in this four-card struggle. The escalating blinds mean that the levels get longer the further into the tourney you go. What's more, you'll get 250bb to start with, so this won't devolve into a shovefest as rapidly as most PLO tournaments do.

Event #51: Sunday, July 30 at 5:03 p.m.

SMPO High Roller Event, $300 + $25, $100K Gtd.: If you've got some cash to spare, then put it down on the green felt and try to parlay it into a big score. There are no gimmicks here, like unusual stacks or bizarre blind increases – just high-rolling poker tournament fun.

Event #96: Sunday, Aug. 13 at 3:03 p.m.

SMPO Mini Main Event, $75 + $7 $65,000 Gtd.: $450 isn't a trivial sum, so if you want a less costly Main Event experience, then this $82 event may be the right size for you. Or if you intend to play in the Main Event but can't wait for it to launch, then why not add this one to your Sunday grind and get started a bit early?

Event #97: Sunday, Aug. 13 at 5:03 p.m.

SMPO Main Event, $425 + $25 $300K Gtd.: This is where the big winners will be crowned, and it's the culmination of the entire Super Millions Poker Open. Expect a big turnout because the sight of the words “Main Event” in the poker lobby will probably capture the imagination of plenty of would-be champs.

Event #98: Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6:03 p.m.

SMPO 2nd Chance Event, $50 + $5 $30K Gtd. (SS): Even if you fail to achieve success in the Main Event, there's still hope of closing out the series with a bang. The 2nd Chance tournament will hand out more than $30,000 to the top finishers. This isn't quite life-changing money for most people, but it's a pretty decent consolation prize.

Qualifier Satellites

There are already low-price qualifiers in the Ignition lobby, so you don't have to pay full retail to enter the SMPO competitions that catch your eye. These satellites cost as little as $0.55 to enter. Be careful though because any duplicate entries to the same event will be forfeit and WILL NOT be exchanged for an equivalent cash prize. You can avoid this problem by entering tournaments that award seats to any SMPO event of the specified buyin amount rather than those that target a single tourney.
