The Poker Brat and the Twitch Twat Shot

Weird Poker News, WTF?  We don't normally post about poker gossip here, but this one is too good to pass up. Last night on Twitch.tv,  Phil Hellmuth "accidentally" flashed pictures of his ¿wife's? nether regions.

WTF Poker News March 16th 2016

Phil Hellmuth sips bubbly on the red carpet

Online Poker has its good moments and its bad moments just like live poker. When playing live poker, you'll run into colorful characters at the table who tell funny stories, and colorful antics. Online, you'll mostly get cursed out and told to "die in a fire" when you suck out on someone. But all in all, there are exhilarating moments, both good and bad, to be had in both venues. But for some reason, live players have a penchant for the dramatic and today's antics online, by a prominent live poker professional, has driven that point home.

Phil Hellmuth is Caesar

Poker, Self-Promotion, and Publicity

Everyone who has ever watched poker on television knows American pro Phillip Jerome Hellmuth, Jr, otherwise known as "The Poker Brat."  He's a very talented individual who holds the world record for the having won the most World Series of Poker championship bracelets, a total of fourteen to his credit!  In achieving that goal he has also amassed a staggering total live tournament winnings in excess of $19,300,000 USD.  On the flip side, he is also known for his incessant whining about hand after hand in tournament after tournament as well as being a world class media whore.

He's done fun stunts such as in 2009 at the WSOP main event when he entered and played the tournament sporting the full gear of a Roman Caesar.   Or there was that time that he showed up in that great United Kingdom city of London with ten hot blondes, two hot brunets, and a giant red double decker bus which simultaneously read "PHIL HELLMUTH GOING FOR #12" and "PHIL HELLMUTH INVADES LONDON."  And these are funny and harmless gags that stir up some press and get the people talking.  In these instances he is harmlessly acting as an ambassador for the game in so far as he is helping to fuel "the poker dream" in the minds of the recreational players we all should encourage to play and follow in his footsteps to poker glory.

The Murky Side of Poker Publicity

Hellmuth wrecks race carThere comes a point however when publicity and self-promotion can go too far.  For our first example we offer the time that Mr. Hellmuth Jr. managed to wreck a race car in the parking lot just before the 2007 Main Event, you know, back when he was pimping UB.com rakeback deals. Allegedly, according to The Brat, the steering locked up on this quarter million dollar engineering marvel and the crash, which totaled the car, was unavoidable.  We feel otherwise.  We think it was a blatant, dangerous, and rather stupid publicity stunt.  There were rumors that Phil was doing doughnuts in the parking lot prior to the crash, and that doesn't surprise us one bit.

Antonio Esfandiaria lunges before taking a quick piss under the poker tableLet us briefly take a step back and look at another very well known and public poker pro, Antonio Esfandiari.  A man with over $26,500,000 in earnings playing live poker tournaments; the all time earnings record holder as a matter of fact. Take for example in January 2016 at the PCA tournament when Antonio Esfandiari got caught urinating underneath the poker table at a live tournament in order to win a prop bet!  We instantly assumed this was a publicity stunt, and if it was, it worked beautifully because it was all over the poker news sites and stayed in the headlines the entire week. Players laughed hysterically, players were appalled at his shaming of the game, others simply thought it was a +EV move given the size of his prop bet. But one thing is for sure, we never thought it would be surpassed on the silliness scale so quickly.  But boy, were we dead wrong...

Monumental Fuck Up or Shameless Act of Self-Promotion?

So what happens when you take a live poker player, well known for his dramatics and put him on the Internet?  Have him live stream real money online poker on the popular streaming site Twitch.tv?  You get a god damned disaster... or was it yet another publicity stunt?  We're certain there will be varied opinons on this one.  So here's what happened.

Hellmuth playing on iPhone and sharing picsPhil began streaming on his Twitch.tv channel on the evening of March 16th, 2016.  He was playing in a couple tournaments (where he managed to win a $500 last longer bet) and reveling in how good a player he was.  Ostensibly this was all done to promote some new Pinapple poker (it's a Chinese poker variant) website which he was playing via his mobile poker device of choice, an iPhone.  It was all sweet and innocent looking and we were actually enjoying the fact that it wasn't a full blown Phil-a-thon promotional event.

And then it happened.  He flashed a pic of what we can only assume, and hope for the sake of his marriage, was his wife's vagina.  It was clearly an amateur photograph taken of a spread eagle puss.  Here's a link to a very NSFW screenshot of the vagina in question.  This flashing of the vagina in question was quickly followed by a befuddled looking Phil Hellmuth saying "What the fuck was that?"

Shortly thereafter the stream was set to subscriber only mode, drastically reducing the number of available viewers.  We're sure this was done while Phil was frantically contacting Twitch.  A .vod file was available in his stream, to subscribers only at that point, for at least an hour before the recording of the stream was removed.

I'm trying to act like that was an accident...

If you ask us, this was no accident, it was all staged.  It was just another publicity stunt from a master of the poker publicity game.  But why?  What's the point?  Just to advertise some shitty Pineapple website?  Really?  You'd flash your wife's holiest of holies to make a few bucks?  Do you really think this reflects well on the game that we all love and cherish Mr. Hellmuth?  Is this how an ambassador of the game acts?  Give us a break man.  We hope you get banned from Twitch.

UPDATE:  There is now video evidence of the Twitch Twat Shot which can be found here
