Win a WSOP Main Event Seat With WPN's Steps

Winning Poker Network Logo

Traveling to Nevada and buying into the World Series of Poker Main Event is beyond the bankrolls of most online poker players, but the Winning Poker Network makes this a possibility for even cash-strapped individuals with its new WSOP Step sit-and-go satellites. If you can make it through all eight preliminary rounds, then get ready to pack your bags because you'll be heading off to Las Vegas. The new step SNGs are now live in the lobby under "Sit & Go" --> "WSOP." They leverage the tourney tickets system that was recently implemented in a WPN software upgrade.

WSOP Steps Structure

Each of the step sit-n-gos starts when there are nine players registered, and they pay out tickets for the next level to the highest finishers. They also issue cash prizes to some of the rest of the field. These contests are shown in the lobby as "WSOP Step 1/7," "WSOP Step 2/7," et cetera, but there are really eight tiers to progress through. This is because there's actually a "WSOP Step 0/7," which gives us eight steps: 0 - 7. Anyone who's fortunate enough to place first or second in Step 7 will get a $12,500 prize package: $10,000 for the WSOP Main Event and $2,500 for travel expenses.

Check out the table below for full details on the buyins and payouts of each step:

Step Buyin 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place 4th Place

1 $1.50 + $0.15 Step 2 Ticket Step 2 Ticket $0.30 $0
2 $6 + $0.60 Step 3 Ticket Step 3 Ticket Step 3 Ticket $4.50
3 $15 + $1.50 Step 4 Ticket Step 4 Ticket $25 $0
4 $50 + $5 Step 5 Ticket Step 5 Ticket Step 5 Ticket $0
5 $140 + $10 Step 6 Ticket* Step 6 Ticket* $180 $0
6 $500 + $40 Step 7 Ticket $775 $465 $310
7 $2,800 + $150 $12,500 WSOP Package $12,500 WSOP Package $200 $0

*Step 6 tickets are also good for entry into a $500 + $40 Mega Satellite MTT, which will run on July 2 and guarantee 50 WSOP ME seats.

Every one of these satellite SNGs can be bought into with the relevant Step ticket, tournament bucks, or real cash, so you don't have to start all the way at the bottom if you don't want to. There's actually another way to jump into the Steps: The weekly Sit & Crush sit-n-go leaderboard is now paying out $55 Step 4 tickets instead of the usual The Cage satellite entries. The Beast leaderboard, for cash game players, hasn't changed though and is still rewarding the top ring game rakers with satellites to The Cage like normal.

It's not clear what will happen to unused Step tickets when the promotion is over. At first, the WPN tournament director said on the twoplustwo.com forums that “they will be gone.” However, other posters pointed out that this isn't fair to people who have earned a ticket to one of the higher levels, which are expected to run only rarely. “Winning_TD” then backtracked from his earlier remarks, stating that he will “do something” with the remaining tickets. What this “something” entails is yet to be determined, but it's good to know that unused entries won't just vanish into thin air.

About This Year's Main Event

The 2017 World Series of Poker starts May 31 at the Rio Hotel and Casino with the $565 Casino Employees Event, but grinders at the Winning Poker Network have quite a bit longer to win their Main Event packages. The headline tournament is #73 on this year's schedule, and it will begin on Saturday, July 8 at 11 a.m. Vegas time. The next two days will also host starting flights, so players can choose to start playing on any of these three days. The tourney will continue every day until Monday, July 17 at which point the final table will be set. In a break with tradition, there won't be a multi-month hiatus until the November Nine resumes. Instead, there will just be a two-day rest, and the final table will play out from July 20 - 22. All of this information is subject to change at the discretion of tournament organizers in order to fit the tournament within the allotted timeframe.
