CSOP Details

Blue Information Button

The CSOP has a lot of moving parts and many different kinds of tournaments for you to participate in. They include PLO tourneys, progressive knockout events, deepstacks, six-max tournaments, and high-roller contests.

More Events Than You Might Suspect

If you look closely at the schedule for the CSOP, you'll see events numbered up to 125. However, there are three times this many (375) tournaments on the official schedule. This is because each number has three events associated with it: a low, medium, and high.

For example, event #54, the CSOP Tuesday Deepstack, is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. UTC on Tuesday, Sept. 16. However, the event is split up into L, M, and H versions with respective buyins of ₮10, ₮50, and ₮500 and guarantees of $2,000, $10,000, and $25,000.

Furthermore, there are 72 “Side” tournaments, which are not considered CSOP official events. Nevertheless, these 72 tourneys are shown in the schedule and are counted when coming up with the overall series guarantee of $6 million.

Buyins and Crypto

The 125 events in this edition of the CSOP have buyins ranging from ₮2 to ₮500 (up to ₮5,000 if we include unofficial Side events) and guarantees of between ₮200 and ₮200,000 apiece. The series therefore has something for everyone from casual players to high-stakes grinders.

CoinPoker has divided its CSOP events into tiers based on buyin level. Each tier (L, M, and H) has 125 tournaments.

That ₮ symbol refers to the crypto-currency Tether (USDT), which is what all the games are denominated in at CoinPoker, the world's largest crypto-only online poker site. The value of Tether is tied to the U.S. Dollar, so you can benefit from the advantages of crypto, like fast transaction speeds and low fees, with the pricing stability inherent in the most widely used fiat currency.

Within this article, we use $ and ₮ pretty much interchangeably. Know that all buyins and payouts within the CSOP and indeed every other game at CoinPoker are denominated in ₮ (Tether), but one unit of this currency is equal to $1 US.

Schedule

Though the bulk of the schedule is for the ever-popular No Limit Texas Hold'em, there are quite a few Pot Limit Omaha tourneys as well. Curiously, 5 Card PLO, which is present for cash games and select tournaments at the site, is absent from the CSOP schedule.

There are between 15 and 24 series MTTs every day of the series plus additional side events. The exceptions are Friday, which have no official numbered events and instead host 15 side events apiece. All series events start between 2:05 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. UTC, which corresponds to between 10:05 a.m. and 5:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The amount of money and number of events in the CSOP are modest when compared with the series offered by other leading internet poker rooms, like the Black Diamond Poker Open at Bovada and the Online Super Series at ACR Poker. This makes sense, though, because CoinPoker is a bit smaller than these competitors. In any case, this is the largest CSOP ever, and the general trend has been toward higher guarantees and greater participation numbers.

Main Events

The CSOP series culminates on its second-last day, Sunday, Sept. 28, when there will be not one but three separate Main Events at 6:30 p.m. GMT (2:30 p.m. ET). They're priced at ₮10, ₮50, and ₮500 with guarantees of ₮10,000, ₮50,000, and ₮200,000 respectively.

These Main Events correspond to three tiers established by CoinPoker for the series: Low, Medium, and High. They are accordingly numbered CSOP #115-L, 115-M, and 115-H on the schedule.

Other Notable Events

There are more than 300 tournaments on the roster, which may be too many for you to find time for in your busy schedule. Therefore, we've taken the liberty of identifying some of the most interesting among them, which you may want to make time for.

CSOP #4, #41, #78 6-Max Sunday Special; Sunday, Sept. 7, 14, 21, 2:30 p.m. ET; ₮5, ₮50, ₮200 buyin; ₮2,500, ₮20,000, ₮50,000 GTD
Running for the first three Sundays of the CSOP, these special Sunday Specials replace the normal weekly Sunday Specials. Besides being part of a series, the major difference here is that the prize pools are significantly boosted over the standard versions that you can play every Sunday.

CSOP Side, Nemesis; Sunday, Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28, 2:05 p.m. ET; ₮5,000 buyin; ₮150,000 GTD
The Nemesis side events, which occur every Sunday of the series, feature the highest buyins and the highest guarantees (apart from one of the Main Events) on the schedule. Coin Poker has made a name for itself for its high-rolling poker cash game action, and these tourneys prove that the site is serious about stratospheric tournaments as well.

CSOP #5-H, 42-H, 79-H, 116-H, 6-Max Deepstack PLO; Sunday, Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28, 3:05 p.m. ET; ₮250 buyin; ₮10,000 GTD
Aside from special high-roller side events, these four tournaments represent the juiciest PLO action available in the CSOP. If the $250 buyin is too high for your liking, there are $50 and $10 versions running at the same time with guarantees of $2,500 and $500 respectively.

$100,000 Added Value

Gold Dollar Bills

As if the five- and six-figure prize pools weren't enough, Coin Poker is throwing in $100,000 extra from its own pockets. These funds will be devoted to series leaderboards, flipout tourneys, and a volume challenge.

$50,000 Leaderboards

The Low, Medium, and High tiers of the CSOP series each have their own leaderboards. The High Tier leaderboard has $35,000 in tournament tickets paid out to the top 10 finishers. The Medium leaderboard is worth $12,000 in tourney entries for the highest 15 on the leaderboard. The Low leaderboard will distribute $3,000 in prizes with 20 paid. All prizes are in the form of tournament tickets, but each winner gets to pick the number and denominations of tickets that they want.

Leaderboard points are awarded based on the following formula:

10 * (√ (Number of players) / √ (Place)) * (1 + LOG (Buy-in + 0.25))

Only official, numbered CSOP tournaments count toward the leaderboards. Side events do not. First entries and re-entries contribute points. The first entry is also eligible for a 10% boost in points as long as registration is made before the tournament starts. Those paying the tournament fee in CHP will get a 50% boost to leaderboard points.

$30,000 Volume Challenge

Anyone who plays 50 or more events within a single tier will get an invite to a special freeroll tournament where all participants start in the money. These freerolls will occur Sunday, Oct. 5. The prize pools, going from high to low, are $20,000, $8,000, and $2,000.

$20,000 Second Chance Flipouts

Second Chance Flipouts are a kind of insurance for those who fail to cash in multiple events. The way it works is that anyone who busts out without cashing in three separate tournaments within the same tier on the same day qualifies for the next day's flipout tourney. For the purposes of this promotion, re-entries don't count; it's only the individual's performance on their first bullets that's relevant.

The high tier flipout pays out in the form of five $100 tournament tickets. The medium flipout is worth eight $50 tickets. Finally, the low flipout pays 10 tickets of $10 each.

Satellites Await

Satellite Structure

Though many of the buyins for the low tier are easily affordable to anyone even just a notch above collecting aluminum cans for deposit redemption, the same is not true for some of the medium- and especially high-tier events. That's without even getting into the side events some of which cost thousands of dollars to enter.

Fortunately, Coin Poker offers a robust array of satellites so that you can attempt to win your seat for less. They run as low as $0.20.
