ACMA Blocks Many More Gaming Sites in June 2026

On June 25, 2026, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced that another batch of gambling websites and affiliate marketing sites are now blocked. The ACMA has been working to block Australian access to internet gambling for many years. The effectiveness of these ongoing, simplistic efforts is questionable.

The ACMA's website announced that Internet Service Providers throughout Australia will block access to these additional sites to supposedly keep Australians safe and comply with regulations and the law.

The ACMA Controls Gambling in Australia

The ACMA is the primary regulatory body in Australia that oversees the media. Gambling, television, telecommunications, texting, and radio all fall under the jurisdiction of the ACMA.

When it comes to gambling, the ACMA has prioritized enforcing safe gambling measures and regulations to prevent allegedly illegal offshore operators from offering online gambling to Australian citizens.

The ACMA regulates media in Australia

The Interactive Gaming Act 2001 was amended back in 2017 to tighten restrictions placed on online gambling. As such, it is illegal for online casino providers located outside of Australia to offer any gaming services to Australians. The lack of proper domestic licensing entities also makes it impossible for any online casino located in Australia to cater to the country's residents. However, it is important to keep in mind that there is no corresponding legislation making it illegal or risky for individuals to play or wager online.

All of the sites listed and blocked this time around appear to be casino operations or affiliate sites marketing casinos. In this report, the ACMA claims that Chromabet.org is imitating the licensed ChromaBet service, a licensed sportsbook and gambling operator in Australia. This site is indeed using the exact same logo and name as the authorized ChromaBet site.

With that being said, the Chromabet.org site makes no claim of being the other, licensed service. Chromabet.org is not a gambling or casino site. It is an affiliate site attempting to steer customers towards safe, offshore options under the guise of the licensed Australian bookmaker (using its logo and name).

It's a similar story with Pointzbet.com, a knock-off of the licensed PointsBet sportsbook.

Sites Join a Long Blacklist

The ACMA first began this kind of enforcement back in November 2019. Since then, 1,751 supposedly illegal gambling and affiliate marketing sites have been added to the prohibited list.

At least 230 operators have chosen to stop serving Australians to comply with these stringent regulations according to the ACMA. Despite these somewhat large numbers, the actual effectiveness of these efforts is marginal at best.

The ACMA's History of Blocking Sites

The ACMA has been blocking sites for many years now, dating back to 2019 at least. In May, the ACMA blocked six gambling sites. Back in April, the ACMA also blocked a pile of sites.

In March, the ACMA targeted eight sites. In March 2025, the the agency banned two sites.

In February 2024, Australia blocked twelve sites. In December 2023, officials blocked eleven sites.

Effective?

The ACMA has claimed that its efforts protect Australians. That is hard to believe from our perspective as this continued blacklisting of sites is a minor nuisance at worst.

Australians can circumvent bans by adjusting their DNS settings. Not to mention, gambling sites can create new URLs to circumvent the original URL being blocked by the ACMA. Many blocked sites already own and operate multiple URLs and prepare for this exact scenario.

There may also be more risks to players. By targeting some of the most popular gaming websites, the ACMA may divert customers to sketchy operators. It has become increasingly clear over the years, just by looking at the brands blocked, that the ACMA has directly influenced the creation of new, inexperienced, potentially dangerous brands that have gained traction across Australia.
