One of the most beloved and recognizable names in online poker and gambling will no longer be associated with any internet gaming sites. Bodog has elected to “discontinue its use by online gambling operators.” This news affects Bodog's Canadian presence at Bodog.eu as well as its Latin American operations accessible at Bodog.com.
All existing Bodog users in Canada and Latin America have had their accounts transferred over to other sites. However, there are differences between the two geographical areas.
Former Bodog Canada customers who visit the company's website now see a message directing them to Ozoon:
Message Displayed on Bodog.eu WebsiteThe user accounts were transferred over on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 17. All Bodog usernames, passwords, and balances remain intact. So too do any active bets. Therefore, prior Bodog users can log in to the new Ozoon site and carry on exactly where they left off.
Indeed, even rewards balances and betting history have been carried over. Furthermore, anyone who has already completed identity verification with Bodog.eu will not have to do so again with Ozoon.eu.
The new site hosts a sportsbook, casino games, and a poker room, just as the old Bodog.eu platform did. One change from Bodog.eu, though, is that residents of New Brunswick are not permitted to open Ozoon accounts. Bodog.eu visitors were prohibited from opening accounts if they were from Quebec, Nova Scotia, or Manitoba
The Website of OzoonBodog.com counted within its service area Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Paraguay, El Salvador, and Venezuela. Now when customers from these regions visit Bodog.com, they see a message like the following:
Message Shown on Bodog.comTheir accounts have been transferred to Ignition Poker, which provides poker and casino games. Notably, Ignition does not host a sportsbook or racebook, so these forms of betting are not available.
Old Bodog.com users can now log in using their existing account credentials to Ignition Poker. All their old balances, rewards level, and points balance remain intact. The only thing they might have to redo is that poker players may have to uninstall the old Bodog poker client and install the Ignition Poker software.
Rather than heading to the usual Ignitionpoker.eu website that Americans and Australians already use, Bodog's Latin American clientele is presented with an IgnitionPoker.com URL when they click the “Continue With Ignition” button on Bodog.com. The two sites are similar, but there are differences.
The Website of IgnitionPoker.comFirst of all, the bonuses are different. Americans and Aussies can claim a 100% up to $1,000 casino bonus and a 100% up to $1,000 poker bonus, both of which grow to 150% up to $1,500 with the use of crypto-currency. However, Latin Americans signing up for IgnitionPoker.com get 100% up to $500 for the casino on their first three deposits along with 100% up to $1,000 for poker regardless of the deposit method used.
The promotions aren't identical either. There's no mention of a Bad Beat Jackpot or a Royal Flush bonus on Ignitionpoker.com despite the fact that both are featured at Ignitionpoker.eu. On the other hand, Ignitionpoker.com boasts a series of 64 freerolls per month, some of which are completely free to enter and others that demand making a crypto deposit or paying a Reward Coins buyin.
IgnitionPoker.com is listed as being owned by Connaught Media B.V., which was the owner of Bodog.com. Also, the Curaçao license linked to at the bottom of the website brings up the Certificate of Operation for bodog.com. By contrast, IgnitionCasino.eu is owned by Bamboo Media and licensed by the Autonomous Island of Anjouan in the Union of the Comoros.

On Bodog.eu, there's a short FAQ addressing questions that clients might have about the move. In one of the entries pertaining to safety and licensure, the company claims that “we continue to be licensed via the Curaçao Gaming Authority.”
However, a quick look at the Ozoon.eu website reveals that it's not licensed by Curaçao but rather by something called the Tobique Gaming Commission. Also, the owner of Bodog.eu was listed as Connaught Media B.V., a Curaçao-headquartered firm, whereas Ozoon claims to be owned by Rocketship Ventures S.R.L, which is based in Costa Rica.
There's hardly any information online about Rocketship Ventures, and it possibly was created specifically to acquire the old assets of Bodog.eu. Its website seems like an amalgam of tech-speak and business buzzwords, such as “working tirelessly to achieve new heights of excellence for stakeholders,” “a passion for innovation and digital transformation,” and “reorienting workflows to break into new markets.”
The Website of Rocketship VenturesWe know that this website belongs to the same Rocketship Ventures because the address listed is the same as that specified in Ozoon.eu's terms of service. Apart from its vague corporate texts, there's not much of interest here apart from a contact form and an email address.
The Tobique First Nation is a native government of the Maliseet people located in New Brunswick, Canada. Under the provisions of the Tobique Gaming Act 2023, the Tobique Gaming Commission was established and authorized to regulate internet gaming.
This is the first time we've heard of this online gaming licensing authority. It's a pretty new Commission, to be sure, and that's perhaps one of the reasons why it seems so obscure. The Commission lists more than 100 license holders, so this jurisdiction does appear to be gaining popularity rather quickly.
The majority of Tobique licensees are smaller, little-known entities. Perhaps the most prominent is web3poker.com.

Amidst all the hoopla surrounding the retiring of the Bodog name, we couldn't help but notice that there's still an online gaming operator branded as Bodog. This is Bodog.io, which we first wrote about in March 2023.
Bodog.io WebsiteBodog.io is an Isle of Man-licensed entity, owned by Star Jar Limited, that offers casino gaming to “a number of countries within the Asian-Pacific regions.” It employs only crypto-currency for deposits and withdrawals.
Following the dissolution of the Bodog internet gaming ecosystem, Bodog.io stands as a remnant of a previous era. Like the Incan rump state at Vilcabamba after the fall of Cusco to conquistador Francisco Pizarro or Napoleon's governorship of Elba following his abdication, Bodog.io appears to be the tiny remaining outpost of a once-expansive empire.

Bodog was founded by Canadian entrepreneur Calvin Ayre as a sportsbook in 2000 after he had been supplying software to other online bookmaking firms for several years. It soon added a casino and poker room becoming one of the first integrated online gaming sites where customers could conduct multiple forms of wagering from a single account.
Calvin Ayre, Founder of BodogAyre grew Bodog to a billion-dollar business, taking full advantage of the poker boom to turn this division of his company to a major player in the industry especially in the United States. Calvin meanwhile expanded the Bodog brand beyond just gaming to encompass other forms of entertainment, like hosting boxing matches and sponsoring modeling photo shoots. Key to this aspect of operations was Ayre's larger-than-life persona, globetrotting to exotic locales often in the company of multiple attractive women.
In September 2007, Calvin Ayre sold Bodog's operations to the Mohawk Morris Gaming Group while licensing the Kahnawake-based organization to use the Bodog brand throughout North America. Ayre began to remove himself from daily operations of his gaming empire, and then in early 2008, he announced his retirement from gaming.
Following poker's Black Friday in 2011, Bodog declined to renew its licensing agreement with Morris Mohawk Group and so the U.S.-facing part of its gaming portfolio was renamed Bovada.lv. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. government seized the Bodog.com name and filed criminal charges against Calvin Ayre.
Bodog continued operations throughout the rest of the world using variant Bodog domains, like Bodog.eu in Canada and Bodog.co.uk in the United Kingdom. This situation persisted until July 2017 when the United States reached an agreement with Ayre whereby he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and regained control of the Bodog.com domain.
This regained Bodog.com site was soon put to use when Bodog decided to expand into Latin America. Other international Bodog operations included East Asia-focused Bodog88, which was active from 2009 to 2020, and Bodog India, which opened in 2018 and closed its doors in 2020.
Now that Bodog.com and Bodog.eu have shut down, the only remaining Bodog-branded online gambling site is Bodog.io.

If you're disappointed in not being able to play at Bodog anymore, don't worry. The folks at Ignition Casino Poker offer just about identical poker games although the casino lineup varies somewhat from place to place. Ignition accepts customers from the United States, Australia, and now certain countries in Latin America. Upon making your first deposit, you'll qualify for both a poker and casino bonus.
