ACMA Blocks Six More Online Gambling Sites

Flag Map of Australia

On May 21, 2026, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced that another group of gambling websites has been blocked. The ACMA has been working to block consumer access to gambling sites for many years. The effectiveness of these continued efforts is questionable.

ACMA Blocks More Gambling Sites

On May 21, the ACMA announced on it's website that Internet Service Providers will block access additional sites. This method of requesting that websites are blocked by local ISP's is incredibly common.

The ACMA Regulates Australian Media and Gambling

The ACMA is the primary regulatory body within Australia that controls the media. Gambling, telecommunications, television, and radio all fall under the jurisdiction of the ACMA.

When it comes to gambling, the ACMA mostly prioritizes enforcing safe gambling measures to prevent allegedly illegal offshore operators from serving Australian citizens.

The ACMA was created in 2005 by combining the Australian Broadcasting Authority with the Australian Communications AuthorityThe ACMA regulates internet gambling and media in Australia

The Interactive Gaming Act 2001 was amended back in 2017 to tighten restrictions placed on online gambling. As such, it is illegal for online casino providers located outside of Australia to offer any gaming services to Australians. The lack of proper licensing entities also makes it impossible for any online casino located in Australia to cater to the country's residents. However, it is important to keep in mind that there is no corresponding legislation making it illegal or risky for individuals to play or wager online.

Six New Casino Sites Blocked

Books

The ACMA has requested that Australian internet service providers block more online gambling websites. The latest blocked sites include:

  • Play Jonny
  • TCL99
  • ACO96
  • Waboom77
  • Wanaco
  • WooSpin

All of the sites listed and blocked this time around appear to be casino operations. By taking a brief look at WooSpin Casino, we can see that the site offers casino gaming and is advertising bonuses.

As you might have already wondered, the names of these sites are a bit odd. This is partly due to the fact that the ACMA has continued to block all sites, so these new operations with somewhat wild names have appeared and continued to open.

Sites Join a Growing Blacklist

Red Circle With Crossbar

The ACMA first began this kind of enforcement back in November 2019. Since then, 1,708 supposedly illegal gambling and affiliate marketing sites have been added to the list of prohibited sites.

At least 230 operators have chosen to stop serving Australians to comply with these stringent regulations according to the ACMA. Despite these somewhat large numbers, the actual effectiveness of these efforts is marginal at best.

The ACMA Continues To Block Sites

Two Swords

The ACMA has been blocking sites for many years now, dating back to 2019 at least. Back in April, the ACMA blocked a pile of sites. Earlier in the year, the ACMA blocked eight sites. In March of 2025, the the agency blocked two more sites.

In February 2024, Australia blocked twelve sites among other sites. In December 2023, officials blocked eleven sites.

The ACMA has repeatedly asserted that these efforts protect Australians. However, this is quite different from reality in our opinion. Australians can easily circumvent bans by adjusting their DNS settings. In addition, gambling sites can create new URLs to circumvent the original URL being blocked by the ACMA. Many blocked sites already own and operate more than one URL and continue operating without any other intervention.

There are also additional risks to players. By targeting many of the most popular gaming websites, the ACMA may divert customers over to less trustworthy operators. It has become increasingly clear over the years just by looking at the brands blocked that the ACMA has directly influenced the creation of new, inexperienced, potentially dangerous brands that have proliferated across the Australian market.
