Merge's Poker Maximus VI Review - 85 Events, 110,000 Players, $3.5 Million In Prize Money!

Poker Maximus VI Tournament Results [www.ProfRB.com]

The Merge Gaming Network is coming off a successful Poker Maximus VI (PMVI) tournament series and we here at ProfRB.com have compiled a comprehensive analysis and review that takes a look at just how well players, and the network at large, fared as a result of this promotion.

First, the basics off the top. Merge ran 85 tournaments in this season's PMVI series, which was the highest number of MTT's ever ran in PMVI history. In all, over 110,000 players took part in these 85 events, with over 26,000 on "Main Event Sunday", the final day of the series, alone. Merge guaranteed that over $3,000,000 in prize pool money would be awarded - and sure enough, nearly $3.5 million comprised the kitty which was paid out over the 15-day run of the series.

Out of 85 tournaments, 21 of them (just shy of 25%) featured overlays, which are prize pool amounts that the house (in this case, the network) covers due to the guarantee of the tournament not being met. The majority of these were in turbos and rebuy/add-on tournaments - but the largest one, a $15,000 overlay, was seen in the $100,000 GTD deep stack tournament ran on Sunday, September 15th. In all, a grand total of $65,757 was paid in overlays during PMVI.

On average, over $200,000 was awarded to players in PMVI events each day during the 15-day series. The largest non-main event day saw over $600,000 in prize money earned (the first day of the series - Sunday, September 8th), while the largest non-main event prize pool of the series was a $179,000 pool in the $175k GTD deep stack - also on the series' opening day. The $250,000 GTD Main Event saw a pool of over $300,000, where 1,508 players competed for a first place prize of nearly $56,000.

An average of 7,398 players per day took part in PMVI events during the period of September 8th through the 22nd. The tournament that saw the single most players was again on the series' debut day - the $7,500 GTD 6-max on September 8th. Over 5,000 players took part in the action in that tournament, increasing the prize pool to an impressive $10,148.

So how did the Merge Network fare as a whole? Well, for starters, there was only one "red" day out of the 15 during the series. The four tournaments ran on Wednesday, September 18th collectively netted Merge a negative $107 all told - all thanks to a whopping $7,900 overlay in the $30k GTD 6-max Turbo that ran as the final PMVI tournament of the day, erasing nearly $5,600 in profits from the other three MTT's.

But that was the only collectively negative day for the network balance sheets, as data collected by ProfRB.com staff reveals that - aside from freeroll entries which we cannot measure - the network as a whole collected over $218,000 in profits from the 85 events that comprised the PMVI series. Boosted heavily by three Sunday windfalls ($42k, $24k, and $68k earned, respectively), Merge turned a profit in 14 of the series' 15 days, showcasing their ability to draw solid player traffic for the sixth edition of Poker Maximus.

You can check out results from every single PMVI event, including full statistical information, player totals, individual tournament profits, and much more by clicking here for our day by day graphics covering the tournament series.

Overall, Merge has to be pleased with the results of Poker Maximus VI. Players made off with tons of money in prizes, and the network managed to create tournaments with opportunities for players of all skill levels and means. It shall be interesting to see just how they manage to top this with the next edition of Poker Maxmius - you can be sure that as soon as the information is available, you'll find out here on ProfRB.com!
