Sunday’s the day for big online poker tournaments the world over, and the United States is no exception. We’ve observed the action at the top American-friendly poker sites to bring you an overview of the biggest tournaments taking place every Sunday.
Our most recent report is from Sunday, May 21, 2017. Included in our U.S. Sunday Majors report are the largest tournament offerings available to American players via the Winning Poker Network, Ignition Poker, Chico Poker Network, and SwCPoker.
The Winning Poker Network, which includes ACR Poker, offers the largest Sunday Major open to U.S.A. players: the $200 + $15 Sunday Special. Participation was just slightly shy of the numbers from last week, but this was still enough for it to exceed the $150K guarantee by a comfortable margin. The top prize of $34,512.66 was earned by user “mookaramus.”
WPN Sunday Special ($150,000 Guaranteed; $200 + $15 buyin)
Players: 903 (153 paid), Prize Pool: $180,600
In the Sunday Special PLO, the number of entrants was 3 fewer than on May 14, which means that this event had an overlay for the second week in a row. At just $1,200, this shortfall isn't big enough to worry the operators of WPN, but it's something to keep an eye on if this situation should continue in the future. “FindTheTruth” emerged victorious, claiming $8,050.
WPN PLO Sunday Special ($35,000 Guaranteed; $200 + $15 buyin)
Players: 169 (27 paid), Prize Pool: $35,000
After it fell short of its guarantee by a sizeable amount on May 14, the headline $100K Guaranteed tournament at Ignition Poker performed much better this Sunday, achieving a prize pool in excess of $114K. The anonymized games at PaiWangLuo Network mean that nobody knows who the winners were, but we can inform you of the top prize values.
Ignition Poker Sunday Major ($100,000 Guaranteed; $150 + $12 buyin)
Players: 765 (126 paid), Prize Pool: $114,750
BetOnline and Sportsbetting.ag are the two U.S.-friendly sites on the Chico Poker Network, and Americans can access the $90 + $9 $50K Gtd. Main Event from either skin. Because it's an R&A event, it tends to build up pretty nice prize pools notwithstanding the smallish weekly turnout. The money on offer this week topped $56K, and $15,138.90 of it fell into the hands of “rickyforpres93.”
Chico Poker Main Event ($50,000 Guaranteed, $90 + $9 buyin)
Players: 319 (30 Paid), Rebuys: 113, Add-ons: 191, Prize Pool: $56,070
Fewer than 6 people joined up for The Medium BTC in the previous week, leading to its cancellation, but there were plenty more entrants on Sunday, May 21. In fact, this event drew 16 players, the exact amount required to avoid overlaying on its 750 chip guarantee. It looks like the team at SwC has hit upon a winning formula after three weeks of fiddling around with the buyin and guarantee for this Bitcoin poker tournament. “GbbaGbbaH” bested his or her competitors and received 300.80 chips, worth around $660 at current market prices.
SwCPoker The Medium BTC (750 Chips Guaranteed; 47 + 3 Chips Buyin)
Players: 16 (5 paid), Prize Pool: 752 chips
It was a healthy Sunday for U.S. poker sites with all Sunday Major guaranteed amounts being met apart from a tiny shortfall in WPN's Sunday Special PLO. “mookaramus” and “rickyforpres93” were the notable winners, each scoring more than $15K apiece for their first-place finishes.
