Touchdown Blitz, from developer Dragon Gaming, is an entrant in the growing field of crash games. It aims to combine this currently trendy style of game with a very popular sport: American football. Touchdown Blitz was released in February 2024.
Though almost all crash games share a few basic mechanics in common – a constantly rising multiplier, the ability to cash out before a crash occurs – there are some differences especially in theme and graphics. We've evaluated all aspects of this game to compose a thorough Touchdown Blitz review in the hope of giving you guidance as to whether or not to play this game.
First on our list of elements to cover is where you can play Touchdown Blitz. Not all online casinos offer every game, and of those that do carry a particular title, not all of them are necessarily legit. There are quite a few shady and dishonest operators out there, but we'll never steer you wrong with our site recommendations.
We're assuming that if you wish to play Touchdown Blitz, you're a fan of sports. Thus, we recommend Bovada, one of the leading sportsbooks in the U.S. market. You can play Touchdown Blitz and other casino games while placing wagers on real-life games for football and many other sports. There's even a peer-to-peer poker room too.
You can get three separate 125% up to $1,250 casino deposit bonuses when you create an account at Bovada and deposit with crypto. The non-crypto bonus is 100% up to $1,000 three times.
BUSR is another combination sportsbook/casino that's open to U.S. residents although it's a bit lower-profile than Bovada, and it lacks a cardroom.
BUSR extends to new casino players a 150% bonus up to a maximum of $1,000 free. In addition, you'll get 50 free spins.
Ignition is a sister site of Bovada and it has basically the same casino and poker room. It does, however, lack sports betting, which is present at Bovada. Nevertheless, Ignition has the same reputation for honesty and fair play as its older sibling.
Ignition's new player casino bonus is 150% up to $1,500 with crypto and 100% up to $1,000 otherwise. In addition, there are frequent reload opportunities.
Touchdown Blitz sets the scene on the gridiron with the home team down 20 to 16 in the fourth quarter. It's fourth down and 18 to go when the snap occurs and the quarterback launches the ball down the field.
Here the familiar crash dynamic takes over with a multiplier slowly increasing from the starting value of 1.00x as the football races down the field. The background consists of cheering fans who fly by in a blur as the camera remains focused on the spinning football.
Will you be able to cash out a win before the football drops? Redeem your bet too quickly, and you risk missing out on significant value. But if you wait too long, then you stand to collect nothing at all.
After each round, you have only five or six seconds before the football is thrown again. We would have preferred a slightly longer interval between games.
You can place up to two bets at a time: one on the left and another on the right. The exact range of values permitted varies from casino to casino, but ranges on the order of $1 to $50 are common. You can use the “+” and “-” controls, type in a specific value, or use the preset bet size buttons to select the amount you wish to bet. Press “Place Bet” to set your wager for the next round.
Move the slider from “Bet” to “Auto” to automatically place the configured bet at the next opportunity and all subsequent rounds. Activating this feature will also cause the “Auto CashOut” checkbox to appear. Select this feature to automatically cash out your wager after the multiplier surpasses the amount you choose.
The “50% Auto Cashout” toggle is an interesting element that isn't found in all crash games. It will perform an auto cashout at the value specified but only for half the bet. The other half will depend on your manual action to cash it out. You can cash out early and leave the remaining half of your wager to auto-collect at the stated number. Or you can wait for 50% Auto Cashout to trigger, collecting half your bet, and let the other half ride until you deem appropriate.
You can actually cash out early whenever you have Auto CashOut selected regardless of the status of 50% AutoCashOut.
The images shown are certainly of good quality and are representative of the action you'll encounter at any football field. However, they're a bit simplistic in that the image of the ball streaking horizontally past the similarly horizontal field doesn't do much to create excitement.
Unlike most crash games, where an object continually ascends as the multiplier increases, the football stays at the same level throughout a round. There's a small abstraction of the field from the 10 yard line to the 100 yard line with the current position of the ball superimposed on it, but the ball seldom goes beyond the 10 yard mark, so this info is basically useless.
The music too is vaguely martial and sporty but overall pretty boring. The sounds from the fans basically combine into an annoying drone.
You can view the history of multipliers toward the bottom of the screen. The latest multiplier hit appears toward the left. As new multipliers become active, the previous ones shift to the right.
The multipliers are shown in either green or red. However, this isn't dependent on their value or any other attribute. Rather, green and red simply alternate.
You can click the arrow toward the top-left of the window to bring up more detailed information. Here, you can see data regarding all bets, specifically your bets, and the top results achieved.
The multiplier values in Touchdown Blitz start at 1x and go up to 10,000x. Curiously, the minimum value that you can designate for Auto Cashout is 1.10. This means that for multipliers between 1 and 1.10, the only means of cashing out is manually.
The Return to Player is a respectable 97%, implying a house advantage of just 3%. Although there are a number of table games that offer a fairer shake to any prospective casino player, most slots are worse.
Dragon Gaming claims that Touchdown Blitz has medium volatility. In reality, the volatility is controlled by the player who can push for high multipliers albeit with correspondingly high volatility or take a safer and less volatile route by cashing out early and often.
Dragon Gaming adheres to a mobile-first product development strategy. As a consequence, Football Blitz and many of the developer's other titles play smoothly on a range of hardware, including iOS and Android phones and tablets.
It's now time to sum up this Touchdown Blitz review and give you our final verdict. While we think that this title is a competent example of a crash game that does what you'd expect, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table.
The graphics and sound are decent but not outstanding, and the mechanics are basically identical to every other crash game out there.
The theme also is a bit weird. The football doesn't look like it makes any upward progress at all, so the rapidly increasing multiplier doesn't appear to correspond to the on-screen action very well. It's not clear why the multiplier can reach up to 10,000 given that a standard football field measures only 100 yards or why the game rounds can stretch out to minutes at a time while nobody on earth could keep a real football aloft for even a fraction of this airtime.
There are positives to this game, like its appealing 97% RTP and the fact that it's available at quite a few USA-friendly casinos. On the whole, though, we're inclined to take a pass on Touchdown Blitz.
