Online Poker Security via VPN, Encryption, Etc

Let's face it, professional poker players are a target for online crimes. Online poker grinders often have large amounts of money spread over multiple poker sites. One easily affordable level of protection can be VPN services.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking. It's a manner of showing up as using a different Internet connection, or IP address, than what would naturally show up from your local Internet Service Provider [ISP]. Some companies providee secure VPN connections for players looking to increase safety while playing online poker. These VPN sites have many packages, services, and countries available so that you can very closely match your real location to your "secure location."

However, there are many pitfalls. If one is not careful, one may purchase a VPN service that gets one banned from online poker sites as it is faultly, improperly set up, used by cheaters, etc. Please contact any company you are interested in working with and ask them many questions about their options available to increase your security while playing online poker.* Some specific questions you may want to ask are:

  1. Is my IP address static?
  2. Is my IP address part of a large public block of IP addresses known to be used for VPN purposes?
  3. Is my connection protected against drops that might expose my local (real) IP address and location?
  4. Is it possible to run only my poker connections via VPN and use my real connection for other web related purposes?
