Bodog & Bovada Tournament Review

Bovada, the US-friendly online poker site of the Bodog Network, offers US and ROW Internet poker players one of the most comprehensive multi-table tournament schedules available. For US players, there is no doubt that Bovada is the clear #1 in terms of player traffic, amount of tournaments offered, and total prize pools offered. Bovada features anonymous tables and limited multi-tabling ability, though player fields are typically softer than those found on other US-facing poker rooms. Their signature events range from daily $35,000 GTD tournaments to their $100,000 guaranteed Sunday major, and there are plenty of points in between for players of all skill sets and abilities.

You can see how far ahead US-friendly poker site Bovada stands against its rival US online poker rooms in tournament traffic. Bovada offers players over 130 multi-table tournaments with stated guarantees of $5,000 and higher every week, and often those guarantees are heartily surpassed. That does not mean there aren't any overlays - they still occur at an infrequent pace and will continue on this course as the summer season winds to an end.

Bovada's player traffic was partially bolstered over the last couple of weeks due to the Summer Million Poker Open, which crushed its stated guarantees before concluding on July 27th. Overlays were down from the previous two week tracking period and although overall overlays aren't very high on Bovada, there are still areas for added value. An online poker site running 275 tournaments with guarantees of $5,000 or higher over the past two weeks is bound to have an overlay or two, but it's the lack of overlays that make them so attractive to US and rest-of-world (ROW) players alike. The sheer number of MTT's available easily make them the #1 option for players in the USA, and keeps them competitive among all poker sites world wide.

Bovada is also one of the few rooms running tournaments with limited late registration and no re-entry, making their player totals an accurate barometer of actual MTT traffic. Over 127,000 players took part in events between July 21st and August 3rd. This number was bolstered a bit by Bovada's Summer Million Poker Open tournament series, which ran from July 7th through July 27th. But even taking away the SMPO traffic, Bovada saw over 100,000 players play in $5,000 GTD and higher events during this tracking period, and Bovada runs a plethora of events with guarantees below the $5,000 mark.

Quite simply, when it comes to multi-table tournaments available to US players, there is Bovada, and then there's everyone else.
