MICRO Tournament Series at Chico Network: $200K GTD

CPN Logo

From June 14 through to 28, the Chico Poker Network (, TigerGaming, and BetOnline) is playing host to the MICRO Tournament Series. The point of this series of tournaments, as the name implies, is to cater to micro-stakes players and give them a chance to play in tourneys with sizable guaranteed prize pools. In all, there are 67 tournaments in the series with total guarantees of $200,000.

Every day there will be a mix of tournaments with buy-ins starting at less than $1. In fact, players will only see buy-ins of more than $30 during the June 20 and June 27 Deep Grind $800 - Special Edition events (buy-in of $33, events #24 and #55), and during the June 24 PLO, Bounty, Turbo, 6-Max, $300 guaranteed event (buy-in of $33, event #45). With that being said, those three buy-ins are still quite low.

Tournament Formats Offered

During the MICRO Tournament Series, there is just about every type of tournament format imaginable. Freezeout tournaments are the most commonly found, and there will regularly be one to three of them every day through the duration of the series. Other tournament formats on offer include re-entry, progressive knockout, rebuy/add-on, shootout, deep stack, Boost, ante up, and a few others.

Most events are of the 6- and 9-max variety, but there are also a few 3-max and 8-max events on offer. There are three different speeds at which tournaments are played. Regular speed of play is found most often, but there is also plenty of turbo and hyper action to be had too.

Types of Poker Offered

Cards and Chips

Far and away, the most common type of poker offered during the MICRO Tournament Series is No Limit Hold’em. In fact, many days feature four separate NLHE events. In total, more than 70% of the tournaments are No Limit Hold’em. Other poker types you will find include Pot Limit Omaha, Texas 6+, and PLO/8.

During the week (Monday through Friday), there will be five or six tournaments per day, all of which will begin in the afternoon or evening hours (Eastern Time). On the weekends, at least 11 events will be held on Saturdays and 13 on Sundays (except for Sunday, June 14, which has only four tournaments). The weekend action starts off earlier, as early as 10 AM ET on some days, and it rolls on into the nighttime.

The MICRO series will also feature new phased tournaments, which will occur throughout the series. Essentially, you can jump into action in any of the many Phase 1 events, and these start from Sunday, June 14. All competitors who survive through the initial phase progress to the Final Phase - $10,000 GTD from a $2 + $0.20 buy-in or the Final Phase - $50,000 GTD with a $10 + $1 buy-in. Both of these final phases occur on the last day of the series: June 28. Most of the other prize pools fall between $100 and $2,500; however, there are a few events with more guaranteed money of up to $25,000.

Tournaments Worth Mentioning

Magnifying Glass

Frankly speaking, all 67 events in the MICRO Tournament Series are worth mentioning because of their small buy-ins and large prize pools. With that said, a few of the MTTs stick out from the rest of the crowd.

On Tuesday, June 16 at 10PM (ET), there is what will surely be a fast-paced tournament in the form of the $5.50 buy-in Texas 6+, Turbo, 6-Max $1,000 Gtd (#10 on the schedule). The prize pool is guaranteed at $1,000, so this is a decent way to try your hand at Six Plus Hold'em and attempt to win a nice prize without having to invest too much.

A tournament format that you will see just once through the course of the series is on June 28 at 8PM (ET) in tournament #66. The $11 Bounty Boost boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $1,500 and is undoubtedly the most unique event of all 67. The combination of fast-fold Boost Poker, progressive knockouts, and three-handed play should make for quickly rising bounty payouts, adding another element of strategy and excitement to the competition.

The potentially most lucrative tournament on the schedule is likely to be the $11-buyin $25,000 Guaranteed Main Event, which is event #62 and is set to run at 1 PM ET on Sunday, June 28. Actually, there are several other main events on the same day with lesser buyins and guarantees.
