We've just told you about some of the ways that online Bitcoin poker sites are falling short in pleasing their customers, but it seems the news is catching up with us almost faster than we can write it! Premier BTC-only poker operator SwCPoker has made several changes to its poker room particularly regarding the rake it charges and the promotions it offers.
2017 has been a banner year for Bitcoin. The price of btc is up 1700% this year alone! This makes things problematic for bitcoin poker sites who denominate their games in bitcoin and charge rake in the same format. As the price of btc goes up, so does the rake. This has already caused SWC to decrease rake once in 2017, back in May, but now, they have had to do so again!
The biggest change and the one with the greatest potential effect on your bottom line is the revamped rake chart. Before, rake caps varied between 0.20 chips and 1.00 chip (appoximately $3.60 to $18.20) depending on the game, the number of players, and the stakes. They now range from 0.05 to 0.20 (about $0.90 to $3.60). Or to put it another way, the new rake maximums that SwC charges at the highest stakes are commensurate with what the site used to levy at the micros. Tournament fees are unchanged. You can see both the old and new rake details below to compare them:
The Krill system at SwC allows you to obtain automatic rakeback on every hand you play as you advance further through the tiers. Management has adjusted these levels and the corresponding SwCPoker rakeback figures to deliver more cash to the players. Here are the old and new Krill Waves:
As you can see, the topmost ranks have remained unchanged, but the lower rungs have been significantly improved. Previously, a player had to advance to Daring Seal (2,500 Krill) before getting any rakeback at all, and it was a paltry 1%. Now, players who do manage to become Daring Seals instead receive 12% back. Even those who are still stuck at the first level (without even the courtesy of having a title to their names) will benefit from 5% rakeback. In an announcement on bitcointalk.org, the SwC rep revealed that it will also become easier to earn Krill and that the changes will be unveiled over the next two weeks.
In addition to the beneficial steps SwC is taking, there's one that will assuredly prove unpopular with its user base: the end of the room's Table Starter Rakeback program. Players were used to collecting 50% rakeback on all their two- and three-handed play, but they won't be able to do so going forward. Still, we believe that the rake reduction and the enhanced Krill Waves rakeback should more than compensate for any losses from the termination of Table Starter Rakeback.
SwCPoker is a great place to play poker if you have some bitcoins and don't want to convert them to fiat and risk missing out on further gains in price. The coins you deposit will grant you 1,000 SwC chips to play with for every 1 BTC, and then when you cash out, this same process will be applied in reverse. The minimum deposit is just 0.00001 BTC, so you don't have to commit a fortune to try out the tables. SwCPoker has the greatest game variety of any internet poker room, including NL Hold'em, PLO, 2-7 Triple Draw, Stud games, HORSE, Open Face Chinese, and many others.
