The last Sunday of every month is a big day at the Chico Poker Network (Sportsbetting.ag, TigerGaming, and BetOnline) because that's when the $100 + $9 $100,000 Gtd Main Event happens. However, this January, the end-of-month Main Event is being up-sized to a $150 + $15 buyin and a $150,000 guarantee. Don’t worry if the higher cost of entry has you contemplating your account balance with dismay; there are ways to win a free seat! With any luck, you won't have to fork over any of your real money to enjoy the Main Event scheduled for Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
You can try to get your Main Event seat through satellite tournaments that are running throughout the month at $15, $30, and $60 buyin levels. There are also feeder sattys at lower prices that award tickets into these larger satellites. Three tiers of SNG steps also permit you to win your ticket for as little as $1.50 if you should be fortunate enough to parlay a Step 1 registration into a Main Event entry. Actually, there are freerolls that pay out in Step 1 tickets too, so you needn't spend a dime if luck is with you.
Of course, attempting to score yourself a $165 tournament buyin through freerolls and satellites is an uncertain affair; you may be looking for a way to exert more control over your fate. To help you do so, the Chico Network has deployed a leaderboard, and everyone who gathers 2,200 Leaderboard Points will get to participate in the end-of-January Main Event free of charge. This leaderboard contest became active Jan. 3 and will continue until the end of Jan 27.
You can only earn Leaderboard Points in the two new formats of poker that the CPN has recently deployed: Windfall and Boost. The Windfall competitions award an amount of points that depends on the buyin of the games you play:
The way the points are awarded in Boost fast-fold poker is a bit different. You must endeavor to make straights using both hole cards. These straights don't need to go to showdown to count. The number of points you'll receive depends on the blind level you're seated at, but sadly, the lowest stakes don't qualify:
Check up on your progress throughout the month by clicking on the “Cashier” button in the poker lobby and then “Active Contests.” Select “New Year, New Favorites” from the list of contests. Choose the “Top 10” tab, and scroll down until you see your username. It will be displayed along with the number of Leaderboard Points you currently possess.
Even if you fall a bit short in your quest to accrue 2,200 points and thereby win a $165 Main Event tourney ticket, your efforts will not have been in vain. There are a range of secondary tickets on offer, and you'll receive the highest one that you're entitled to claim:
Please note that the $165 ticket must be used to enter the Main Event running on Jan. 28. However, any lesser ticket won can be redeemed on any valid future tournament of the type indicated.
The opportunity to benefit from a gratis $165 tournament credit doesn't come along every day, but there's more to the Chico Poker Network sites than this. Upon making your first deposit, you'll be able to take advantage of a 100% up to $2,500 bonus that clears at a better-than-average 33% rakeback rate. Furthermore, you'll get to play in a $10,000 New Depositors Freeroll and will obtain about 5% more in returns from the comp points program. These details are the same across all three Chico Network sites, so read our reviews and decide which one is right for you: Sportsbetting.ag Poker review | TigerGaming Poker review (non-US) | BetOnline Poker review.
