Micro Series Festival at Chico Network: $230,000 GTD

CPN Logo

From Sunday, April 27 through to Sunday, May 4, the Chico Poker Network (BetOnline, SB Poker, and TigerGaming) is playing host to the next installment of the Micro Series Festival. The point of this series of tournaments, as the name implies, is to cater to micro-stakes players and give them a chance to play in tourneys with sizable guaranteed prize pools. In all, there are 184 tournaments in the series with total guarantees of $230,000.

Every day there will be a mix of tournaments with buy-ins starting at $1.10. At the other end of the spectrum, the highest-cost tourneys will only set you back $22, which should be affordable for most every player.

The Micro Series Festival is a set of low-buyin tournaments at the Chico Poker Network

Tournament Formats Offered

Clipboard

During the Micro Series Festival, there’s a wide range of tournament formats present. Normal freezeout tournaments are commonly found on the schedule though there are also many events in the progressive knockout format. Other tournaments on offer include deep stacks, bomb pots, mystery bounties, and six-max tables.

Though the bulk of the schedule consists of No Limit Texas Hold’em Games, you will also encounter PLO, PLO/8, and 5 Card PLO.

Every day during the series timeframe, there will be between 22 and 24 tournaments. The earliest begin between 12:30 and 3:00 in the morning (Eastern Time). Then the next MTTs start at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the action continues through the rest of the day.

Tournaments Worth Mentioning

Magnifying Glass

Frankly speaking, all 184 events in the Micro Series Festival are worth your attention because of their small buy-ins and guaranteed prize pools. With that said, a few of them stick out from the rest of the crowd.

The most important tourney of the entire series is undoubtedly the Mini Main. This $22 tournament begins at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. There’s $30,000 up for grabs, the highest amount on the entire roster, so be sure to register to get your share. The name of this tourney is the “Mini” Main, which tends to imply the presence of a larger Main Event, but in fact, there's no other Main Event to be found anywhere in the series.

If you want to test your mettle in another large-field MTT, then the $20,000 Opener may appeal to you. It begins Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. and comes with a $22 buyin.

Many of the other tournaments are virtually indistinguishable from each other, falling within the same range of buyins and guaranteed prize pools. However, the $11-buyin $7,500 deepstack on May 4 at 7:00 p.m. has a slightly larger prize pool than other similar tourneys. The deep stacks and relatively high guarantee mean that you should see a lot of play for your $11 commitment.

Leaderboard Prizes Await

Podium

According to the BetOnline website, you can “rack up points as you crush the tables and climb the Micro Series Leaderboards.” This hints at the opportunity to compete for cash prizes with your fellow Micro Festival players. However, there are no details about how the leaderboards work or even what kinds of prizes are available.

Previous installments of the Micro Series have had total leaderboard prizes of a few thousand dollars. Therefore, it's likely that the prizes this time around will be on a similar scale. Thus, you should treat the leaderboards as a way of maybe picking up some extra spending money rather than as a way of securing a life-changing sum.
