Winning Poker Network - The Cage

Professional Rakeback Online Poker News:

American poker players are all too familiar with the unfortunate fact that high stakes and nosebleed stakes No Limit Holdem online poker cash games became virtually extinct following the segregation of markets as result of Black Friday.  Other networks stepped up to the plate, Winning Network among them, and attempted to offer such games, but the realities of processing funds for players in the United States turns the building and maintenance of a high stakes poker community into a rather difficult task.  Well, leave it to the innovative people who brought you the worlds largest progressive rake race "The Beast," to find a way to bring back the nosebleed action that we all crave, be it as a high stakes poker player or a recreational railbird!

The Winning Poker Network, available to players world wide including the USA poker players,  decided to create a new type of game to satisfy our desire for action.  Dubbed, "The Cage" (think cage match!), this exciting format will be best described as a "cash game in tournament format" according to Professional Rakeback sources.  Full details about "The Cage" should be unveiled this upcoming Friday, September 2014.  By all appearances "The Cage" will be an action packed high stakes slugfest of an entirely different type of format, a format far different from anything seen in online poker to date.  The buy-in will be handled in the traditional MTT style of a set buy-in amount plus a fee, or rake.  The price of entry to "The Cage" will be $5,000+$200. *EDIT: upon actual release rake was halved to only $100 for $5,100 total buyin!*  For this buy-in amount players will receive $5,000 worth of tournament chips.  Play will then commence at blind levels of $10/$20 with a $2 ante, which is fairly large online game to begin with.  After one hour of play round two begins and the stakes will be raised to $25/$50 with a $5 ante (definite high stakes territory here).  Then a third nosebleed blind structure of $50/$100 with $10 ante takes place - this is the final round of "The Cage" tournament.  After the third round has completed, the tournament ends and all the chips are tallied.  All players left with chips on the table receive those chips, in cash, as their tournament prize payout!

The Cage will have multiple options for entry, just like any MTT.  Players will be able to direct buy in for $5,000+$200 *EDIT: upon actual release rake was halved to only $100 for $5,100 total buyin!* or win any of a number of satellite entries.  Professional Rakeback is unsure how many satellite entries will be available for the first iteration of "The Cage" but it is our understanding that all subsequent events after the initial iteration should have two to three dozen guaranteed sattelite entries.  That many satellite tournament entries should allow recreational players a chance to play nosebleed poker with the big boys, specially when satty entry to The Cage begins at $30+3 buyin levels!  While we are not entirely sure what other options will be available, one should expect Daily $30+3s that feed into $300+20s (also available for direct entry), which will ultimately lead to seats for the main event tournament.  Sundays, the biggest tournament poker day of the week, will likely feature some sort of $100+9 larger scale satellite.

The proposed structure of this tournament, with high blind levels a 3 hour time frame will lead to fast and furious action.  With large antes, players will not be able to sit around and NIT it up in hopes of an easy score.  Aggression and action will be the name of the game and it should make for great railbirding action.   We estimate that the first installment of "The Cage," which is due to run in or around October 8th 2014, will likely be a four table event.  After the initial main event however, PROFRB expects that subsequent tournaments will likely be more in the range of six or seven tables deep.  Speaking of which, we expect that The Cage will become a monthly event and we would expect a second running to take place in or around November 12th 2014.

Now, one thing we touched on at the beginning of this article that we have left until now is the issue of "how do I get paid?"  Luckily, the Winning Poker Network scores consistently high marks in our monthly US poker site payouts report.  But they are not simply satisfied with resting on their laurels.  Because of the high stakes nature of this brand new poker game, all participants will be offered a low cost (perhaps even free) bank wire for the entire amount of their tournament winnings!
