Poker de las Americas Review

Professional Rakeback brings you a review of a poker site not well known outside of South America, "Poker de las Americas."

THIS SITE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE:  Professional Rakeback Recommends that players from Latin America try BODOG or YA POKER instead.

Overview

This mainly Spanish speaking poker site (they have English website as well) has rocketed up the cash game rankings at PokerScout lately after a period of steady growth the last few months.  Originally a skin on the now defunct Intellogix Poker Network, PDLA pulled away from the network and became a standalone website offering sports betting, casino, and what we are most interested in, poker games.  Normally players are not allowed to play in multiple currencies on this site, but Professional Rakeback has worked out a special deal for our players where by any player depositing in USD can play not only on the USD tables, but against all of the Venezuelan fish on the VEF tables using Venezuelan Bolivars (BSF).  Please note that due to national laws, only players physically located within Argentina may play on the Argentinean denominated tables.

Poker de las Americas is licensed and regulated in Costa Rica. The RNG is GL certified. Despite having "Americas" in the name, Poker de las Americas does not accept players from the United States of America, if you happen to be a USA poker player, please check out our US Poker Sites instead of this review.  The poker client Poker de las Americas Certified RNG - aka scam free poker! software is licensed from Connective Games which is the same well-tested software as EuropeBet, PokerMira and PokerDom use.  The PDLA software options include a downloadable windows based poker client, an instant play browser poker client that is Mac compatible, as well as a mobile poker client that one can enjoy Android friendly poker on.  They even have an instant play no download version of the software that can be played on virtually any GUI based operating system and web browser.

PDLA Cashier Information

PDLA offers players the ability to deposit in a number of currencies including USD - United States Dollars, VEF (or BsF) - Venezuelan Bolívar, ARS - Argentine Pesos as well as COP- Colombian Pesos.  As we stated above, only players physically located in Argentenia may play on the ARS tables, but most players will be depositing with USD and playing on the Venezuelan poker tables after converting their USD to VEF via the new automated systems.  PDLA allows peer to peer P2P transfers.

Players can deposit and withdraw in a variety of methods including Neteller, Skrill, Credit Card, Bank Wire, EcoPayz, Webmoney and Paysafecard.  Professional Rakeback recommends sticking to the ewallet options such as Skrill, Neteller, and EcoPayz for the fastest and smoothest deposits and cashouts.  Here is some more cashier information:

December 11th 2014 current exchange rate is 1 USD = 6.3 VEF and 6.3 VEF = 180 Bsf - These numbers will be used with the following calculations.

Please Note: Peer to Peer Transfers do not count as deposits.

How to Convert USD Deposits to VEF

As we've stated above, we advise most of our players to deposit in USD.  There are considerably more games available for VEF denominated tables than USD tables.  Playing on VEF tables is a simple matter of converting your USD balance on the fly.  This can be done within the poker client.  However, before one can swap between currencies, one must first log into the website, choose the "cashier" option from the menu, select balance, find the section labeled "real money" and choose "add new wallet"  - Please note that creating currencies other than VEF will NOT allow you to play on those tables.  Only VEF and USD tables are available to players outsdie of Argentena.

Once a player has both a VEF and a USD account, they can convert their USD deposit into VEF from within the poker client.  Simply select the cashier button, locate the exchange button, and then choose the currency you wish to convert in.  Scroll down to the currency you currently have, and exchange currencies at the listed rates.  The rates are equal going back and forth between currencies, there is no vig or juice charged to change currencies within the poker client software.

Traffic, Cash Games and Tournament Information

According to industry leader PokerScout, PDLA is now ranked among the top twenty online poker networks, which is impressive considering it is not a network at all, but a single poker site wholly owned and operated.

The largest player pool, available only to players physically located in Argentina due to national gaming laws, has a very large amount of traffic, up to the equivalent of 10k NLHE and PLO with dozens of smaller games running at all times.  Those Argentinean players are lucky! For the rest of us, we will still have access to super fishy games, just of lower stakes.  The daily traffic on the VEF and USD tables that the majority of our players will have access to runs games up through the mid stakes USD equivalents daily, and especially at peak times.  Both NLHE and PLO games have regular traffic so study up on your omaha poker strategy now!

Poker de las Americas online poker tournaments are denominated in both United States Dollars and Venezuelan Bolívars.  Guarantees in the weekly tournaments can exceed $2,000 USD equivalents with some special tournaments having guarantees as high as $5,000 USD equivalent.  On the surface, it appears that the tournament fees at PDLA are above average when compared to other Euro, Asian, and US-friendly poker sites.  All of PDLA's internet poker tournaments have a flat ten percent tournament fee.  Normally poker sites scale down the rake as the stakes of the tournament goes up, but at PDLA the fee is always a flat 10%, such that a $1+.10 exists at the same time a $200+$20 exists.  However, if one takes a few moments to actually watch the games and play on the site, one will quickly dismiss this slightly higher tournament fee rake.  Why do you ask?  Because this site is full of some of the worst poker players you have ever seen!

Online poker has not been around for decades in Latin, Central and South America like it has in North America and Europe.  This fledgling market is full of true fish, some of whom can not even read their hands properly!  Even with a moderately higher rake structure in place, a competent player's ROI on a site like this could be astounding.  All of the multi table tournament sites offerings and freerolls are of the No Limit Texas Holdem variety at this time.  Speaking of freerolls, PDLA runs a lot of micro stakes freerolls each day to entice new recreational players to the tables.  ** Unfortunately SNG action at VEF and USD tables is more or less non-existent.

Poker Promotions

Poker de Las Americas also routinely runs a rake race that any player who signs up through Professional Rakeback may take advantage of.  This rake race is easily equivalent to 20% effective rakeback and all forms of cash games, Sit and Goes (SNG), and multi-table tournament rake and fees counts towards the totals.  All players are also eligible to win prizes in the Bad Beat Jackpot (yet another tool they use to lure in the recreational fish).  For tournament and SNG players there is also a monthly leader board where points are earned for placing highly in all SNGs and MTTs.  Each month PDLA rewards the best and highest ranking of their players. The "player of the month" receives tickets for all of the "Sundays Millonarios" in the following month.

Poker de las Americas Rake & Rakeback

The rake charged is the industry standard 5%.  Keep in mind that the site offers games segregated by different currencies and as such the rake will vary based on which currency you are playing in and its current exchange rate relative to USD.  With that said, the rake caps are actually quite low on the VEF tables.  At micro stakes the rake cap is approximately equivalent to $0.45 USD.  At small stakes, up to 100NL equivalent, the rake cap is about $0.66 USD, and at mid stakes plus, the rake cap on the Venezuelan tables is approximately $0.83 per hand.  Low rake and super soft games will equal massive profits!

The Poker de las Americas rake race provides a minimum of twenty percent effective rakeback to participants who place.  Evaluation of final participants numbers reveals that it is a rather soft rake race in comparison to other ROW networks such as iPoker.

Is Poker de las Americas legit? -  The online poker software on PDLA is licensed from Connective Games.  Thousands of players play on Connective Games poker software each day at poker sites such as PokerDom, PokerMira and EuropeBet.  The random number generator or RNG of the Connective Games & PDLA poker software has been tested and confirmed legitimate by GamingLabs.  You can view their up to date Certificate of Integrity any time by checking the link to Gaming Labs.

I am interested in other Spanish & Latin online poker sites, any more recommendations? - Professional Rakeback also endorses YaPoker.  YaPoker is the Spanish skin of the Winning Poker Network <-- read our review.  It offers 27% flat rakeback or a VIP program that is a clone of the PokerStars loyalty program.  It also offers the world's largest progressive rake race.  The games are not of the same fishy quality as those on Poker de las Americas, but YaPoker has far superior rewards system, so it should balance out in the end.  The poker rooms are of similar size range when it comes to cash games but PDLA does enjoy about 10-15% more cash game traffic - though YaPoker has much larger multi-table tournaments to offer its online poker players.
