US Online Poker Sunday Majors Report: May 14, 2017

Sunday’s the day for big online poker tournaments the world over, and the United States is no exception. We’ve observed the action at the top American-friendly poker sites to bring you an overview of the biggest tournaments taking place every Sunday.

Review of the Sunday Majors available to USA online poker players

Our most recent report is from Sunday, May 14, 2017. Included in our U.S. Sunday Majors report are the largest tournament offerings available to American players via the Winning Poker Network, Ignition Poker, Chico Poker Network, and SwCPoker.

Winning Poker Network

May 14 marked a return to normalcy at ACR Poker and the other sites on the Winning Poker Network after the excitement of the OSS Cub3d in preceding weeks. The $215 Sunday Special easily surpassed its $150K guarantee by more than $30,000. Player “Wsopboy1993” prevailed over the other 909 entrants to claim a first prize of $34,780.20.

Players: 910 (153 paid), Prize Pool: $182,000

The story was a bit different on the PLO side. For whatever reason, the Sunday Special PLO failed to gather many participants, and there was a tiny overlay of $600. “spacejam88” received the $8,050 top prize.

WPN PLO Sunday Special ($35,000 Guaranteed; $200 + $15 buyin)
Players: 172 (27 paid), Prize Pool: $35,000

Ignition Poker

There was a pretty big overlay over at Ignition Poker and its partners on the PaiWangLuo Network. Needing 667 registrants in its Sunday $100K to organically meet the stated prize pool amount, it fell more than 50 short. The site had to kick in $8,200 to cover the difference. There's no way to tell who won because all usernames are hidden at Ignition, but we can inform you of the largest prizes awarded.

Players: 612 (108 paid), Prize Pool: $100,000

Chico Poker Network

BetOnline and Sportsbetting.ag, the U.S.-friendly operators on the Chico Poker Network, were able to meet the $50K guarantee on their Sunday Major tournament, called the Main Event. The fact that it’s a rebuy and add-on MTT, in contradistinction to the other events on our list, probably helped it do so. “ForeheadTat” won $15,989.40 for beating the field.

Chico Poker Main Event ($50,000 Guaranteed, $90 + $9 buyin)
Players: 336 (30 Paid), Rebuys: 121, Add-ons: 201, Prize Pool: $59,220

SwCPoker

SwC is having considerable trouble with its featured Sunday tournament, The Medium BTC. After overlaying hard on April 30, the guarantee was cut in half along with the buyin, but it still couldn't meet the guarantee on May 7. This week, management decided to reduce the guaranteed prize pool again, to 750 chips, but it failed to garner the minimum number of required participants (6) to run.

It was overall a disappointing Sunday for American online tournament poker with a couple of overlays and a canceled tournament. Poker firms operating in the United States will have to watch their traffic patterns carefully to avoid embarrassment and possible financial loss as summer draws near – traditionally a slow season for internet poker. Be that as it may, “Wsopboy1993” and “ForeheadTat” certainly aren't complaining, having scored five-figure payouts at the Winning and Chico networks respectively.
