Live streaming has become a popular form of showcasing games and players, but Winning Poker Network has decided to use the platform to answer questions and make announcements. They did this once again on Monday by making a few announcements and setting out a timeline for future changes.
Twitch.tv has become a fun format to watch poker like never before. Some great personalities are able to showcase what they can do, but no major poker companies have tried to use twitch for much besides live event streaming. Winning Poker Network’s, which consists of America’s Cardroom, Black Chip Poker, PokerHost, True Poker and Ya Poker, CEO is changing that though by hosting live streams where he answers questions and make announcements about what is to come for the network. This past Monday is no different as he made some pretty big announcements that mostly concern tournament players.
Previously we told you all about the big announcement that Jackpot SNGs were going to be made available to players in the US for the first time. Initially there was a lot of fear about what that would do the other games and if the site ecosystem was going to be able to support it. Hearing these concerns, and many others, Winning Poker Network has decided that they are going to get rid of DONs, or double-or-nothings, once Jackpot SNGS begin getting offered early next week.
This move is interesting for a number of different reasons. Like we stated, it fixes the issue of splitting up the ecosystem too much, which should put some players concerns to rest. The other big advantage of this is attempting to fix the collusion issues that have been reported with DONs in the past. The CEO stated that he was tired of dealing with the complaints and feels that it is too difficult to properly police the games. Shutting them down is definitely a fix and is a welcome change to a lot of players, but of course not everyone is happy. It is not clear if there is going to be further investigations and compensation for players, but if those details do become available we will pass them along.
There are two main things they are going to be promoting through their extensive satellite offerings. The first of these is the Million Dollar Guaranteed on this coming Sunday. There are numerous satellites, super satellites and freerolls to super satellites being offered by the site. If this is an event you want to play and don’t have the money for the buy-in of $540 then you have a lot of options to make it happen, no matter how much money you do have put away for shots at satellites. Also, with this aggressive of a plan, the tournament should be fairly soft with lower limit players getting into the tournament for much cheaper.
The other satellites that are going to become very interesting in the very near future are those for the World Series of Poker Main Event. Not much is known with the specifics of what these satellites will be like, but the CEO did say that they would be the largest promotion that Winning Poker Network has ever ran, and this should get players pretty excited, because this is the site that has a $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament, $50,000+ rake race every week and numerous other lucrative promotions. When these specifics are known, we will pass them along to you guys!
The Winning Poker Network is making some changes and getting ready for some bigger and better promotions in the future. The removal of DONs isn’t something new to sites, as PokerStars got rid of them quite a while ago, because they felt them too hard to police, and by replacing them with Jackpot SNGs they are helping keep the ecosystem a bit more sustainable.
