US Online Poker MTT Profit | Loss Report (Feb/March 2014)

US online poker room multi-table tournament profits and losses, indicating a room's strength or relative weakness in maintaining player traffic and MTT offerings.

US Online Poker Room MTT Profit | Loss Report

In this report, ProfRB.com compiles monthly data on all US-facing online poker rooms in terms of whether or not their multi-table tournament schedule produces a profit, or a loss of money. This report includes US-facing online poker rooms Bovada (Bodog Network), Carbon Poker (Merge Network), ACR Poker, Black Chip Poker, True Poker, PokerHost (Winning Poker Network), Intertops and Juicy Stakes (Revolution Network), Full Flush Poker (Equity Poker Network), and BetOnline Poker (Chico Network).

Every US-facing network offers its players a daily MTT schedule - we track tournaments from guarantees of $1,000 to $5,000 and higher - and we take player totals from these tournaments to determine if the room or network makes or loses money on each event. While common thought in the online gaming world is that tournaments are mostly 'loss leaders' and a miniscule portion of a gaming company's overall bottom line, you can tell by the data presented below just how strong (or not as strong) these rooms and networks are at attracting players to their sites.

A couple of notes before we dig into the numbers. The figures we report do not include freeroll or tournament ticket entries into these MTT's, so the numbers you see below are what we call "precise estimates". To see each individual US-facing online poker room's tournament schedule, full results, the amount of overlays they produce, prize pools, and more, check out our MTT Overlay and Player Traffic reports here.

When you see a lot of green font color across Profit | Loss data, you know things are looking good. Bovada Poker continues its dominance across US-facing poker rooms with a stellar start to 2014. Profits are up across the board in terms of their $5,000 guaranteed and higher MTT's, and a lot of that has to do with the sheer amount of them now present across their daily schedule. Bovada has turned their tournament offerings into a tour-de-force of profits, and has shown a willingness to expand their schedule when players dictate they should. It all equals success for Bovada, who has become the clear #1 option for US players in terms of tournaments, cash game traffic, and short payout timeframes (Bovada scored a 9.3 - our highest rating to date - in our Monthly Cashout Report).

GRAND TOTAL (February): +$170,453 in profit (down $32,337 from Jan)

January saw increases of upwards of $80,000 in profits on Merge's $5k guaranteed MTT's over their December figures, but took a bit of a stumble in February as profits were down around $32,000. February saw Carbon and Aced Poker's OPS tournament series come and go with a solid outing, but it wasn't enough to make up the difference from an otherwise strong start to 2014. Merge is currently in the midst of a major schedule shift towards bringing in more players among lower guaranteed and differing types of MTT offerings moving forward (more rebuy/add-ons, non-holdem tournaments, etc.) and one can expect fluctuating profits as a result. However, Merge on the whole remains the #2 option as present in terms of player traffic among US-facing online poker rooms, and though their profit numbers are below those of Bovada, they are still strong compared to others within the US online poker landscape.

WPN is making strong strides towards competing for foot traffic and profits with rivals on the Merge Network, though still has a ways to go towards becoming the #2 option for US players. A particular note of confidence in WPN, however, is the consistency found in their stabilizing daily tournament schedule. We began tracking a few lower than $5k GTD tournaments to better reflect WPN's daily schedule back in January - but it's the usual weekend staples that have led the charge in terms of generating profits. The February editions of their Sunday $50,000 and $100,000 guaranteed MTT's contributed over $20,000 in profits alone, and only the February 9th edition of the $100,000 GTD has produced an overlay ($1,200) through the first two months of 2014. That points to WPN's growing player base, in which its continued escalation will bode well for other MTT's across their daily schedule.

The Revolution Network still offers a relatively light MTT schedule in terms of guarantees, though we continue to track their tournaments in an effort to offer as much of a glimpse into their profits as possible. The $15,000 guaranteed that runs on Sunday is the highlight, and though it has overlaid twice in eight offerings in 2014, it accounts for the majority of the overall profits we have tracked (roughly 70%).

ProfRB.com recommends Intertops Poker (invite-only for US players) and Juicy Stakes on the Revolution Network. You can contact Professional Rakeback with your interested in either of these rooms.
