Cover Girl Strip Poker Video Game

The last decade of the twentieth century saw some good advances in gaming technology, but sadly these were not strong enough for fans of strip poker games to really get the most out of playing on a home computer. That didn't stop the developers and publishers though, with a number of new titles seeing a release throughout the decade.

Cover Girl Strip Poker was definitely one of the most well known of all strip poker video games when released in 1991, with the words 'Cover Girl' evoking strong associations with popular men's magazines of that age.

The original creator was a firm known as Emotional Pictures who was a subsidiary company of InterActive Vision A/S from Denmark. The game was designed to work on Amiga, DOD, Commodore 64 platforms, and a few others.

Of course, in those earlier days of video gaming the quality of the experience was nowhere near that which you'd take for granted nowadays. This lack of quality resulted in a cascade of negative reviews and comments from various sources. The Cover Girl Strip Poker title was on the receiving end of some of these scathing reviews.

In particular, the Commodore 64 version attracted many negative remarks, focusing not only on poor graphics quality but also attacking the core values of the game and its obvious sexual nature.

Alongside one alleged report from one of the in-game models stating she wasn't informed what the game was about before shooting any images, these reviews are cited as leading to a disclaimer being placed that stated "not manufactured, distributed, or endorsed by any models appearing in it".

The Gameplay

Like many previous stripping-based poker games released in video game formats, the gameplay in Cover Girl Strip Poker was based on standard 5 card draw where any hand won by the player would result in the removal of some item of clothing by the game models.

At the outset, all parties get a bankroll of $2,500. The maximum bet allowed is $999 and there are two rounds.

Various languages can be chosen, ranging from Danish, Swedish, English, French, German, German, and Italian.

Although most versions featured video footage of four different models, the Commodore 64 version had six, and also differed from the others in that getting the girls stripped was easier due to different betting rules.
