Overview and Design

Magnifying Glass

While Mount Olympus is indeed part of the Olympus massif and the highest mountain in Greece at that, it is better known as the home of the pantheon of ancient gods. Ruled by Zeus, the god of thunder and the sky, it is home to the mighty deities in Greek mythology. Betsoft chose four other gods alongside Zeus for an intense slot game, namely the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, the sun god Apollo, the god of the sea Poseidon, and the god of the underworld Hades.

As you play Take Olympus for real money, the visuals and animations in each cycle of the gods will adapt to the currently active god or goddess, each represented by a statue to the side of the grid. The colour schemes range from the dark tones of Hades’ underworld to the lushly green and flowery world of Aphrodite. Accordingly, the soundtrack changes to fit the temperament of the respective deity.

Take Olympus is played in a 5x4 format with 50 fixed paylines. Pays run from left to right, and you will need three to five matching symbols, possibly in combination with wilds, on a line to hit a winner. The betting range for this godly reel adventure stretches from 0.10 to 45 credits per spin. Beware, changing bet sizes will reset the progress in the current cycle. It's better to complete the 10 spins of a single cycle before moving to higher or lower stakes.

Your voyage to the top of the mountain can yield up to 300x your bet on a base game spin for a full screen of Zeus symbols, while the Free Spins special feature can deliver wins of up to 2,328x the stake. The game itself has low to medium volatility with an RTP of 95.49%, which is slightly below the industry average in slot games.

The pay symbol set comprises the five mighty gods and their signature icons. Please note that the table reflects payouts in real money for a $5 bet. At the low end we have Aphrodite’s myrtle leaf, Apollo’s bow and arrow, Hades’ hound known as Cerberus, Poseidon’s trident and Zeus’ lightning, awarding from 0.8x to 1.2x your bet for a single five of a kind.

They are followed by the deities themselves – Aphrodite, Apollo, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. These premiums yield 2x to 6x your stake for a line of five. Zeus acts at the same time as the wild symbol, substituting for all others. There are no scatter or bonus symbols on the reels.

Slots featuring Greek gods – or any other gods for that matter – are usually intense reel affairs that include modifiers, surprising twists, mystery boxes, random features, and bonus rounds. Hundreds, if not thousands, of such games can be found today in online casinos, which makes it harder for developers to deliver the one blockbuster that will have players line up for a spin. Betsoft’s effort might just fit that profile as it is jam-packed with all kinds of modifiers and features thanks to the Spin-Cycle mechanic.

“What is a Spin Cycle?” is probably the first question that comes up when looking at Take Olympus. The mechanic is a proprietary development by Betsoft and represents batches of spins during which modifiers or other extras are accumulated. They will then be applied on the final spin of the cycle, providing the potential to score bigger real money wins. Bet amounts are deducted on every spin as usual.

Spin the reels to battle with HadesSlots Battle with Hades

On Take Olympus, there are four Cycles of the Gods – Aphrodite, Apollo, Hades, and Poseidon. Each has 10 spins, allowing you to build up the power of the chosen deity before it all ends with a God Event, followed by a new cycle with 10 spins. The next active god is randomly chosen at the start of every cycle; however, you can never have the same god two times in a row. A display to the left will indicate the currently active god and the remaining spins in the cycle.

During Aphrodite’s Cycle, all positions where Aphrodite and myrtle leaf symbols land during the 10 spins will be marked with a golden Wrath of Abundance. Once all reels have stopped on the final spin of the cycle, all marked positions will turn into winged mystery symbols. Spaces in between marked positions will also be transformed. Once all are applied, they will unveil a common pay symbol except Zeus Wilds.

Apollo’s Cycle is similar to that of Aphrodite, only that now the marked positions will turn into wild symbols on the final spin of his cycle. However, only marked positions transform into wilds.

As expected from the god of the underworld, Hades’ Cycle is the most volatile as it involves win multipliers. It starts at x1 on the first spin of the cycle and increases by x1 for each Hades or Cerberus symbol landing anywhere on the reels. The accumulated multiplier shown in the display to the right of the game window is applied to all wins occurring on the final round, which can actually be a losing spin. .

Poseidon’s Cycle is again similar to that of Hades, only that now the number of collected Poseidon and trident symbols on the paylines will award an equal amount of free respins. These are standard spins with no modifiers or active cycles but usually result in at least some modest wins.

Spins against Zeus in the Battle of the GodsZeus controls the reels

Time to take a look at the most powerful god of them all. Throughout the gameplay, Zeus acts as a wild symbol and while he does not have his own cycle, he will be the one triggering the big showdown. Any time Zeus lands stacked in full reel-height on any reel together with all four other gods also in view, he will award a bonus of 10 Allfather’s Grace Free Spins, which cannot be retriggered. During the feature, Zeus will randomly absorb the powers of one god or goddess on every free spin.

  • Apollo – Wilds of Zeus: Five or more wilds are placed on random reel positions
  • Aphrodite – Mysteries of Zeus: Five or more random symbols are turned into mystery symbols
  • Hades – Abundance of Zeus: The win multiplier is boosted by a random factor
  • Poseidon - Chaos of Zeus: Triggers a random number of free respins after the free spin

When you play Take Olympus for real money, you'll find it's a fine addition to the Betsoft software collection with an engaging mechanic that not only alternates the scenery every cycle but also the modifiers and features. One minor complaint might be the relatively low maximum win potential, low volatility, and 95.49 RPT percentage as they might deter fans wishing to play high-volatility online casino games and chase mega wins from an ascent to Mount Olympus.
