Anyone wanting to get involved in a tournament series with $2 million guaranteed should take a look at the Championship Online Poker Series (COPS) at the Chico Poker Network, which includes SB Poker, BetOnline, and TigerGaming. If this appeals to you, then get yourself ready to begin starting Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, which is when the series kicks off. From that date until Sunday, Feb. 6, 130 separate events will run. That’s right – there are 15 days of exciting tournament action to look forward to in this year's COPS.

COPS Tournament Series

About the Series

Informational, Blue Icon

The Championship Online Poker Series is made up of 130 events that occur every day for two weeks. It features guarantees of $2 million in prize winnings, including a $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

The events all come with various buy-in amounts so that the series caters to lots of different types of players. These tournaments will see buy-ins range from between $11 and $320 with guarantees from between $1,000 and $200,000 outside of the Main Event. Therefore, players possessing all levels of bank balances can participate.

Notable Events

Regarding the Main Event and its $300,000 prize pool, this is listed on the schedule as Main Event #120. It occurs on the final day of the series – Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. EST. The buy-in and fee for this event stand at $100 + $9.

This is also joined by a smaller Main Event for those with smaller bankrolls: Main Event #121 with a buyin of $22 and a guaranteed prize pool of $40,000. It also begins at 1 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Alternately, if you're in search of high-stakes action, you can buy in to the $320 High Roller, #125 on the schedule, which begins at 5:00 p.m. on the same day. This carries a guarantee of $50,000, and the high price point should keep the field size low, giving you a high chance of scoring a big prize without playing all day.

This time around, the Chico Poker Network is trying out something new with tournaments that can only be accessed from a mobile device. There are 11 such mobile-only MTTs, all priced at $11, with modest guarantees of between $1,000 and $2,500. Perhaps if they prove to be successful, we will see more of them added with larger buyins and prizes up for grabs in future series.

Some of the other intriguing MTTs within the Championship Online Poker Series include:

  • Jan. 26, 7:00 p.m. EST, #32, $55 R/A $20,000 GTD 7-max
  • Jan. 30, 9:00 p.m. EST, #67, $109 Turbo Deep $15,000 GTD 6-max
  • Feb. 2, 1:00 p.m. EST, #86, $109 Marathon $25,000 GTD 7-max
  • Feb. 5, 5:00 p.m. EST, #114, $55, Boost $3,000 GTD 7-max
  • Feb. 6, 7:00 p.m. EST, #126, $215 PKO $50,000 GTD 7-max

Not only is there a broad range of price points for the COPS series but also some diversity in the types of poker on offer. However, they are all NL Hold'em contests; PLO and other variants are absent this time around.

Deepstack events, that start much deeper than 100bb, are a boon to skilled players who wish to play through all three streets rather than engaging in preflop shovefests. Progressive Knockouts (PKOs) allow you to pick up some extra dough by knocking your foes out of the tournament, and because the remaining bounties increase as more and more players are eliminated, toward the latter stages of play, you can really pick up a nice chunk of change by knocking someone out. Both Deepstacks and PKOs are prominent in this year's COPS schedule.

There are a few rebuy + addon events in the series, but most events don't permit these extras. However, even in the non-R&A tourneys, you are generally allowed to re-enter up to 10 entries per player.

Ways to Earn Entries

Besides paying cash to join the COPS events that you wish to participate in, you can earn your seats through satellite tournaments, which you can enter for as little as $1. Additionally, there are special missions and contests running during the series whereby you can win tickets to various MTTs as well as tournament cash that you can put toward any tournament entry.
