COPS Tournament Series

About the Series

Informational, Blue Icon

The Championship Online Poker Series is made up of 153 events that occur every day for two weeks. It features guarantees of $2.5 million in prize winnings, including a $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

The events all come with various buy-in amounts so that the series caters to lots of different types of players. These tournaments will see buy-ins range from between $11 and $215 with guarantees from between $1,000 and $200,000 outside of the Main Event. Therefore, players possessing all levels of bank balances can participate.

Notable Events

Regarding the Main Event and its $300,000 prize pool, this occurs on the penultimate day of the series – Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. EST. The buy-in for this event stands at $109.

This is also joined by a smaller Main Event for those with smaller bankrolls: The Mini Main Event has a buyin of $22 and a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000. It begins at 1:05 p.m. on Feb. 5.

Omaha lovers will instead probably wish to partake in the Omaha Main, which occurs also on Feb. 5 but at 8:00 p.m. For a buyin of $215, you will be able to compete for a prize pool of at least $10,000.

To wrap up the series, BetOnline is giving away $2,000 in sports betting free plays. This will occur on the final day of the series, on Feb. 6 at 8:00 p.m. Indeed, this freeroll tournament is the only COPS event scheduled for Feb. 6.

Formats

Not only is there a broad range of price points for the COPS series but also some diversity in the types of poker on offer. Though No Limit Hold'em represents the bulk of the tournament roster, PLO makes its return in various tournaments throughout the series, giving players with a penchant for that format ample reason to get involved.

Deepstack events, that start much deeper than 100bb, are a boon to skilled players who wish to play through all three streets rather than engaging in preflop shovefests. Progressive Knockouts (PKOs) allow you to pick up some extra dough by knocking your foes out of the tournament, and because the remaining bounties increase as more and more players are eliminated, toward the latter stages of play, you can really score a nice chunk of change by knocking someone out. Both Deepstacks and PKOs are prominent in this year's COPS schedule.

There are a few rebuy + addon events in the series, but most events don't permit these extras. However, even in the non-R&A tourneys, you are generally allowed to re-enter multiple times.

Ways to Earn Entries

Satellites

Besides paying cash to join the COPS events that you wish to participate in, you can earn your seats through satellite tournaments, which you can enter for as little as $1. Additionally, anyone who fails to cash in COPS series tournaments on a given day will be given entry into an All-in Shootout the following day. This shootout MTT will distribute COPS event and satellite tickets to the winners.
