US Online Poker MTT Profit | Loss Report (May/June 2014)

US online poker room multi-table tournament profits and losses, indicating a room's strength or relative weakness in maintaining player traffic and MTT offerings.

USA Online Poker Tournament Report - May 2014

In this report, Professional Rakeback compiles monthly data on all US-facing online poker rooms in terms of whether or not their multi-table tournament schedule produces a profit, or a loss of money. This report includes US-friendly online poker rooms Bovada (Bodog Network), Carbon Poker (Merge Gaming Network), ACR Poker (Winning Poker Network), Intertops and Juicy Stakes (Revolution Network), Pokerhost and Full Flush Poker (Equity Poker Network), and BetOnline Poker (Chico Poker Network). Note: BetOnline debuted in our July 2014 report.

Every US-facing network offers its players a daily MTT schedule - Professional Rakeback track tournaments from guarantees of $1,000 to $5,000 and higher depending on the network in question - and we take player totals from these tournaments to determine if the room or network makes or loses money on each event. While common thought in the online gaming world is that tournaments are mostly 'loss leaders' and a miniscule portion of a gaming company's overall bottom line, you can tell by the data presented below just how strong (or not as strong) these rooms and networks are at attracting players to their sites.

A couple of notes before we dig into the numbers. The figures we report do not include freeroll or tournament ticket entries into these online multi-table tournaments, as this is basically an impossible task, so the numbers you see below are what we call "precise estimates". To see each individual US-facing online poker room's tournament schedule, full results, the amount of overlays they produce, prize pools, and more, check out our MTT Overlay and Player Traffic reports here.

Bovada| Bodog continues to hum along like the well-oiled machine they are, posting record profits on their multi-table tournament schedule in April (the highest 30-day profits since we started this report in October 2013) and following that up with another highly successful May. Though the summer months are upon us and one would expect the money rolling in to slow, Bovada is still by far and away the number one option for US players. Tournament guarantees remain the strongest for US-facing online poker rooms, and with some overlays appearing over the past few weeks, it only serves to add more value to playing at their tables.

If you're interested in taking advantage of Bovada's soft player fields and large MTT offerings, consider signing up with Professional Rakeback.

What a difference a couple of months have made for the Merge Gaming Network. Long forgot are the struggles of February and March in relation to their MTT schedule. With reintegration across partnered rooms in April, coupled with a highly successful Carbon OPS Tournament Series in May, Merge has firmly staked their claim to the number two position for US-available online poker rooms. Player traffic in tournaments has increased in the weeks following the OPS, and though the summer season will likely bring some flucutations in tournament fields, it only makes it more of a reason to be playing here.

The Winning Poker Network experienced one of their best months in terms of profits from their multi-table tournament schedule in April thanks to a stellar Online Super Series and solid MTT offerings on a daily basis. However, traffic dipped significantly in May, causing overlays to occur in a much more frequent fashion. But while WPN may not have made much dough in terms of profits from their MTT offerings last month (tournaments are largely considered 'loss leaders' in online gaming), the propensity for overlays only serves to make their MTT's more attractive to players of all skill levels looking for added value. And with the High Five series returning in June, WPN will remain a highly solid #3 in terms of offerings for US players.

With a continued minimal tournament schedule and player traffic swaying up and down in relatively moderate levels, profits generated from MTT's are typically light for the Revolution Network. Though they made slightly more in April then they did in May, this is a drop in the bucket considering operational costs and casino-generated money drives their core business. Juicy Stakes and Intertops, the primary and ProfRB.com recommended rooms on Revolution, remain content for now with a limited MTT offering and generating positive revenue - however light. Both rooms are still sought for their commitment to service and paying players well within their (short) stated waiting periods.

ProfRB.com recommends Intertops Poker (invite-only for US players) and Juicy Stakes as safe and secure options on the Revolution Network.

Sunday MTT schedule (May; 4 days): -$3,612 loss

MAY 2014 TOTAL: -$13,904 loss (-$13,853 from April)

The Equity Poker Network makes its debut on our monthly Profit | Loss report. Professional Rakeback began tracking their tournament offerings in April 2014, and although they are still operating these online multi-table tournaments at a loss through the end of May, EPN is poised to be a player in the online poker landscape - particularly for US players. Overlays have been plentiful over these two months, and players should see this as a great opportunity for added value, no matter your skill level.  Players will want to pay special attention to the "Nightly American $4,000 guaranteed" as well as the "Big Fat 15k guaranteed" Sunday Major tournaments for exceptional value spots!

ProfRB.com highly recommends Full Flush Poker and Pokerhost on the Equity Poker Network. Consider signing up for these rooms with Professional Rakeback!
