✅ How are the stakes expressed in LHE, and how does this relate to the small and big blind amounts?

When you see two numbers representing the Limit Hold'em stakes, like $1/$2 or $5/$10, the first number represents the small bet amount, used preflop and on the flop, and the second is the big bet, which is the amount players can bet or raise on the turn and river. The big blind is equal to the small bet, so for $5/$10, the big blind would be $5.

The small blind is generally half the size of the big blind, but this is sometimes rounded up or down to make the numbers work out more evenly. For instance, in a $5/$10 limit game with a $5 big blind, the small blind is usually $2 because it would be awkward to denominate it at $2.50 although this is truer in live games than online.
